Memory Ten - Sig Neg
Apr. 30th, 2011 11:47 amTakuto slapping him, "You should be careful, do you want to die?"
Okay so. Star Driver gets almost no explanation for anything you really want to know. The thing about this memory is that it kicks off a full episode of Sugata acting like a jackass with no explanation. The way things are set up, it is meant to look like it was triggered by Benio using her First Phase on him, but I pretty much never agreed with that theory for a lot of reasons:
A) Benio's power is to 'charm' boys into doing whatever she asks. We see her use this on someone else and it makes him SUPER EXCITED as you expect Charm to do. Sugata never reacts like this.
B) Sugata shuns Wako and Takuto (his ~loves interests~) but he never interacts with or says anything about Benio at all.
C) When Benio DOES try to use him he shrugs it off without even acknowledging she exists.
So I assume Benio's first phase just flat out didn't take. Either because she was in love with Sugata and in being 'charmed' by him could not charm him herself, or just because Sugata is a bitch and like, whatever.
So! That is nice but it still leaves a lot of questions into why the hell does Sugata act like a bitch then? He certainly isn't actually upset that Takuto slapped him out of his stupor.
The director, when asked about this, said something to the effect of "He was probably upset because he was sixteen and everything is balls and in trying to save someone he cares for he only made them more upset etcetc".
I don't DISAGREE that Sugata's reaction to his own failure is to be a cranky bitch and shove everyone away. But in light of what happens at the end of the episode, I'm going to take it one further.
Wako mentions that when she first Apprivoised, she got an info dump. While the Warrior Cybodies don't do that, the Maidens all appear to. It is probably where Sanna-chan got the story of Sam. I think Sugata got a similar info dump, only because it's fucking Samekh it was either more educational or just more balls.
We know that at some point Sugata decided to personally become the seal putting Samekh to sleep, thus freeing the maidens of their duties and getting rid of the risk to the entire world. We don't really know what would have happened had Sugata succeeded. There SEEMS to be flaws in his plan (would Wako have really been free without destroying her cybody? Would this have at all solved the issue of the Glittering Crux going after her?) but I going to assume that it STILL WOULD HAVE WORKED even if Takuto had not broken Wako's Seal and killoed Samekh. We really don't have enough info to know either way and Star Driver likes to make shit up.
Anyway! REGARDLESS! Sugata had a PLAN and it was a plan to PERMANENTLY PROTECT THE WORLD AND ALSO FREE WAKO and you can have fun thinking about which of those he considered top priority. However, in order to MAKE this plan, he had to be privy to information we never get in the course of the series. He had to know where Samekh was, what it was basically 'up to', what level of a threat it posed, that it would even be POSSIBLE for him to become Samekh's seal, that he would need the East Maiden, and so on.
There are two points where he could have gotten this info! Either A) When he is 11 and his family tells him about his DESTINY, or B) When he Apprivoises Samekh. I am assuming B because I think if his family knew A they would have approached things differently. However, since no one has ever woken up from Apprivoising with Samekh before, most likely the information was never passed along. Until! Sugata! And the reason for his ire was that he just got a huge info dump of basically "Samekh is a douche and the world is ballsed" and he had to decide what the hell to do over it. The reason he goads Takuto about his power, and the reason he resolves his inner conflict with "TO PROTECT WAKO!!!" is because it reflects his priorities. Protecting Wako is the most important thing, and that means both he and Takuto need to play their roles. After this point in canon, Sugata starts training with Takuto and riding him hard to be better, gradually becomes more trusting of Takuto's ability to handle shit himself, and eventually, once Keito reveals herself to him, he has the opportunity to put into action a plan to put Samekh to sleep permanently and himself with it. Basically killing himself BUT protecting the world and freeing the maidens.
So! This is really ENTIRELY HEAD CANON. However, it makes the most sense to me, and the directors and the show are deliberately obtuse on these matters, saying they left in a lot of blanks so people could have fun filling it in themselves! And thus at least I am working in the spirit of the show I guess.
SO, FINALLY.
What He Remembers:
Basically, groggily waking up in Tauburn's hand, vague image of Zero Time, then his King's Pillar going off against his will, a general state of grogginess, people talking but not registering it. Being kissed? Hearing familiar voices, it being night. BEING SLAPPED! Surprise, confusion, waking up to reality. Realizing the reason he was totally out it a second ago was from trying to process his info dump. Realizing there are ENEMIES, chasing them off. Settling into a CRANKY BITCH mood mostly due to overwhelming info dump, worry for his friends, irritation at his own failure and situation and etc. Telling Takuto off. I part genuinely about the 'you might die' thing considering that he just accidentally destroyed a huge swath of forest.
What He Learned:
Essay on HOW THIS EFFECTS SUGATA pending after I actually play it out cuz lol NOT SURE.

What He Learned:
-I Apprivoised with Samekh, and while I was connected with him, learned things!
-Samekh is an ancient, omnipowerful ship and is also sort of alive and is generally a dick
-Samekh is inside Zero Space
-Zero Space, the Maidens and the Warriors all exist to keep Samekh right where the fuck he is.
-Because if he gets free he will eat the libido of the ENTIRE WORLD to refuel
-Samekh is huge and overwhelming and controlling it would be An Issue
-But noooot impossible
-I couldn't physically GET to Samekh because he is buried in Zero Time
-The functions of each of the maidens, North, South, East and West.
-The Warrior Cybodies used to actually be part of Samekh
-LOTS OF OTHER Samekh whatever that will be decided on as it occurs to Aviy
-King's Pillar can make craters
-Recognized the three people in the masks, don't have identities for them but the pink haired one is in love with me
-Was in a coma for a while as a result of Apprivoising.
-Didn't expect to wake up
-Made friends sad, balls
