[SUGATA approaches a resting area at sunset. A young man (Head) in the third year uniform of Southern Cross High is there.]
Head: Never seen anyone else in this park before.
Sugata: Do you go to my school? I've never seen you there.
H: Did you know? This spot is the best place on the island to watch the sun set.
S: Are you a painter?
H: Yeah, but there's nothing I want to paint anymore, and I haven't held a brush in a while. So it's been rough.
S: Rough?
H: It's annoying. I'm trying to convince myself to give up painting, but I haven't painted it yet. The one painting I need to paint, crying to be set free into the world.
S: Well, then just do it.
H: Talent is granted by God. It might be a sin not to use it.
S: ...
H: Do you live around here? If you see me again, don't hesitate to say hi.
[Sugata walks off without another word.]
What He Learned:
So basically, this is significant for Sugata in canon, because at the time he was struggling with whether or not to use King's Pillar. The first time he used it, he went comatose and scared the shit out of his friend. It's possibly a second time would have the same result, and he might NOT come back, or he might simply need rescuing, which is also undesirable. Head telling him that talent is granted by god, is what gives him the inspiration to start using King's Pillar in battle, despite the risk to himself.
It is also what lets him trust Head a bit more which leads to their relationship blossoming (=
For Tide, this is just a peculiar sort of memory! He knows it was significant to him at the time, but doesn't know why. He thinks it's a nice thought, but isn't immediately aware of having any talents, so it isn't very useful. Overall, he has no particular opinion on it, and didn't learn much, tho he will remember the advice.
